On our way back to Melbourne we drove to the Grampians National Park. From Warrnambool to the National Park the landscapes were very flat and similar, mainly fields with some isolated farms. We passed only one small town! We really felt we were in the middle of nowhere. We saw the Grampians from far as it is the only mountains around. They are impressive mountains with their weirdly formed rocky outcrops and stark ridges. We drove through the park to Halls Gap (the only town in the National Park) and really enjoyed the beautiful landscapes. However you could see the damaged caused by a very big bush fire in January 2006 as most of the trees were still black. Close to Halls Gap we did a short walk (1h30 return) to the top of Mt William (1168m, the highest point in the park). The view on the way and from the top were outstanding. We even saw an emu in the forest when driving back to Halls Gap. After a quick lunch we headed back to Melbourne. We drove through very flat and dry landscapes, mainly farmlands. It was a long 4h drive to go back to Melbourne as the speed limit is only 100km/h on highways in Australia. In the evening we were invited by Nicky's brother for a BBQ at his place. We had a lovely time with his family and the food was awesome. He even bought French wine and Polish beers :)
