It has been raining all the day but that did not stop us visiting. We left the hostel early around 7.30am to go to the Franz Josef Glacier. From the car park a short walk takes you to a point of view....but the view was very limited due to the mist, however we could still see the beginning of the glacier. Afterwards we drove 20km up to Fox Glacier village. We first went to the lake Matheson, famous as it offers stunning views of Mt Cook and Mt Tasman reflected in the water. We did a 1h30 walk through the rain forest around the lake....under the rain! We enjoyed nice views on the lake but due to the weather we missed out on the reflections of the mountains on the water! We ended up being very wet but continued our journey and stopped at the Fox Glacier. Despite the mist we still had a nice view on the glacier as a short walk takes you closer to it, than in Franz Joseph. We then headed up to Haast driving through the rain forest, we stopped at a few more places (Bruce Bay, Lake Paringa and Knight's Point) but except in Knight's Point we stayed in the car to enjoy the views as it kept raining. We arrived in Haast early in the afternoon and had a relaxing time in this very small town.
