Today was our first visits of Inca sites. We caught a bus to Pisac early in the morning and asked the driver to drop us at Tambomachay (7km from Cusco, we paid S/2 but should have paid S/1!). This site is very small but very nice. There are a few Inca walls around a spring, that was sacred for the Incas. To access it we had to buy the boleto touristico of the Sacred Valley (S/70 but it is half price for students). Opposite there is the small site called Puca-Pucara, nothing special, a few walls built with small stones, this use to be a fortress, but still gives you a nice view on the valley. We then walked 3km along the road on the way back to Cusco up to the site of Kenko, you cannot miss the site as it is next to the road and you always have at least 4 touristic buses parked at the entrance next to the indians selling souvenirs. We realy liked Kenko, it is quite small but an interesting site to visit. Only a kilometer further we visited Sacsahuaman. On the way we went up to Christo Blanco, a giant status of Jesus Christ, from which you have a very nice view of Cusco. We have been very impressed by the massive walls of Sacsahuamanand and wondered how the site looked like before being partly destroyed by the Spanish (they used stones from this site to build the Cathedral of Cusco). From this site it was only a quick walk (20min) to our hotel. As it was still early in the afternoon we went to visit the Monasterio Santo Domingo (S/10, or S/5 for students like us!), we have been a bit disappointed by the visit. You can see a few Inca walls inside that have been restored as the monasterio has been built where used to be a very important Inca temple dedicated to the sun, Templo del Sol Qoricancha. You can also visit a nice cloister and also a small but nice garden. We then wandered in the streets of Cusco that we start to know pretty well!
