Thursday 01/11/2007 - PERU, Arequipa

We arrived in Arequipa only at 11am (instead of 7am) as our bus had an engine problem, it was going so slow that all the other buses were passing us. We will not travel with Cial again! We found a nice hotel for S/30 Hostal El Tumi de Oro (the price was S/50 but they accepted our offer for S/30 when they found out that Gosia was Polish). This hotel is managed by a very nice old couple who likes Poles as their daughter is maried with a Polish guy. In the afternoon we visited the Monasterio Santa Catalina where we met an Australian guy that used to work at Otis, small world isn´t it! The entrance was very expensive S/30 but this was worth it. The monasterio is huge and very nice. It used to be a place for nones coming from very rich families so they had their own "flats" within the monasterio. You can visit them all (100 of them) with the original furnitures, they all have a kitchen, 2 rooms and a lounge. Within the monasterio there are streets and many cloisters. We really enjoyed visiting this beautiful place. The visit took more than 2h and afterwards we wandered in town to see a few churches and nice buildings. Back to the hotel and we were so tired that we falled asleep...it was not even 7pm!
