Sunday 02/12/2007 - NEW-ZEALAND (North Island), Taupo, Masterton "Cammo"

Today we headed south to visit our ex-flatmate from London, Cammo. Before leaving Taupo we checked out the Huka Falls, which are "flat waterfalls"! We drove nearly all the day and saw beautiful landscapes. We crossed the Tongariro National Park, from Taupo we drove to Ohakune via Rangipo and National Park. We also drove up the Bruce Rd which takes you to the Whakapapa Ski Area and offers great views on the volcanoes. In Ohakune we did a short but very nice walk through a beautiful forest ("Forest Walk", 1h). And after lunch we drove to Waiouru (beautiful views on the National Park), Palmerston North and Masterton. The road from Palmerston North to Masterton was very nice, lots of very green hills with plenty of sheep. In Masterton we met Cammo who took us to a barbecue organised by his friends. Before the meal Cammo drove us in his 4 wheels car around the farm where his friend works, we saw lots of sheep and enjoyed beautiful views. The meal was great, we had a good chat with Cammo and his friends and loved the very tasty lamb chops!
