Thursday 08/11/2007 - PERU, Cusco, Pisac

We had a great day visiting the ruines of Pisac. Pisac is a village 32km from Cusco. It took us an hour by bus to arrive at the village (S/2.20). The ruines are on a mountain behind the village. You can catch a taxi that will take you to the upper ruines, but we decided to walk. The track starts at the end of a street left of the church on the main place. We walked through beautiful landscapes and terraces, the slope was steep but it was not too bad....except the stairs!(see picture). It took us 45min to reach the first ruines. The site is made of 4 main parts, we visited two and saw the other two from the top. In fact you have ruines all over the top of the mountain and we really enjoyed discovering them hiking in those very nice landscapes, as the site is quite big you can easily be on your own and avoid the big groups of tourists! Before catching a bus back to Cusco we had a look at the market and were very surprised by the prices, much more expensive than in Cusco, you can feel that the place is made for "rich" tourists! So we decided to buy our souvenirs in Cusco. When we came back to Cusco we found out that there had been some manifestations during the day and that tourists could not leave the town as there was no buses. Luckly we always start visiting early, so we had no problem catching a bus before 8am.
