We got up early to go to the middle of the world, la Mitad Del Mundo. We caught one of the numerous Mitad Del Mundo buses at the terminal norte of Quito. We paid $1pp (they ripped us off, as the ride costs $0.40ea only!) and 40 min later we arrived to find doors closed, the site opens only at 9am. We had breakfast and came back to still find the doors closed as the staff "were late". We really wondered if it was worth it to come to the middle of the world which in fact feels like the end of the world! Finally the site opened so we could do our pictures, one foot in each hemisphere. After a quick visit of the non paying museums (for most of them you have to pay an additional $3 to the $2 entrance fee) we returned to Quito (we paid only $0.40) and we caught a bus to Latacunga where we had arranged to meet Laurence's sister, Claire. We had to wait for her for two hours in the dodgy bus terminal. When she finally arrived, we wanted to catch a bus to Zumbahua straight away, so we boarded the first bus, but we have been stopped by a terrible incident Laurence's backpack got stolen from the bus boot, so we ended our day at the police station and spent the night in this unpleasant town.
